The Jordan University College although its name is new; however its origin goes back to 1993 when the Salvatorian Major Seminary was established in Morogoro. In the first six years of its existence the main purpose of the Seminary was to prepare the candidate to the priesthood. In 1999 the Seminary changed its name into the Salvatorian Institute of Philosophy and Theology and at the same time it opened the doors to anybody who wanted to pursue studies of Philosophy and Theology. In those years both BA programmes of Philosophy and Theology received ecclesiastical affiliation to the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy. The number of students was approaching 300.
In the academic year 2010/2011 the Salvatorian Institute affiliated with the St. Augustine University of Tanzania becoming its constituent college and changing its name into Jordan University College. In that academic year BA with Education was added and the total number of students increased to almost 700.
