Understanding PCOS
PCOS is a hormonal disorder characterized by irregular periods, excess androgen production, and often, enlarged ovaries containing cysts. The exact causes of PCOS are not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Hormonal Imbalances: PCOS is associated with elevated levels of androgens, male sex hormones that are normally present in women in small amounts. Excess androgens can disrupt the hair growth cycle, leading to hair loss.
Common Symptoms: In addition to hair loss, women with PCOS may experience irregular periods, acne, weight gain, excessive facial and body hair growth (hirsutism), and fertility challenges.
