FASAR K-9 is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization with nationally certified dogs who aid law enforcement in search and recovery for the missing. Florida Alliance of Search and Rescue K-9, Inc. (FASAR K-9) is non-profit 501(c) (3) volunteer organization. We train and deploy Search and Rescue (SAR) canines who are nationally certified through the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) and/or the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) to find lost and/or deceased individuals at the request of local law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction. We conduct annual background checks on each team member and only deploy K9 teams and ground support resources who are trained and certified in ICS and NIMS compliant as required to be deployable in the State of Florida. FASAR K-9 provides free service to the AHJ with dogs certified in trailing to find a specific person(s) from a scent article in both the wilderness and urban environments. We provide air scent dogs certified to find any person in large areas or where the point last seen (PLS) is either unknown or area that has been contaminated preventing a trailing canine the ability to follow their trail. Air scent dogs certified to find missing people in buildings and rubble as seen in natural and/or other disasters. We also provide dogs certified to find Human Remains Detection (HRD) in the wilderness and urban environments. These canines are also certified to conduct vehicle searches, building searches, work from a shoreline or boats on the open water to find victims of drowning or homicide as well as rubble as seen in natural and/or other disasters. FASAR K-9 owns one ATV, two boats and other equipment necessary for any type of search and rescue deployment. Teri Holycross is the Executive Director of FASAR K-9. Teri has been involved with Search and Rescue and serving communities in Florida since 2003. Teri is a Lead Evaluator with the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) and Chief Examiner with the Alliance for Emergency Response Instructors & Examiners (AERIE). FASAR K-9 team members meet weekly for team training, we provide mutual aide training to other Search and Rescue resources and hosts two workshops each year. We are members of the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) and affiliate members of the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) and the Florida Fire Chief Association’s wilderness search and rescue (WSAR) division. FASAR K-9 has several team members with a law enforcement, fire and/or military background giving us a better working understanding and relationship with the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
