I checked in at the LAX counter 4 hrs in advance, and they couldn't find a seat where I could sit together with my companion. And both of us got assigned to two middle seats, I have absolutely no bargining power to trade/switch seat with anyone even if I wanted to.

The only response I got was these seats are assigned by the computer, and there is nothing they could do about it. Computer may not have common sense or empathy, I would expect flight attendants to have a little of both being a human.

Coincidentally, the kind gentleman sat next to me were also got separated from his sister, and she happened to be sat next to my gf, he was kind enough to offer to switch seat with my gf, so that I am able to sit together with my gf, and he can sit together with his sister.

I do not know what type of AI system ITA Airways is using to assign these seats, both their computer system and ground staffs suck!"
