While the brake swap itself is a straightforward mechanical process, it does involve replacing the front spindles—and this is where your Third Gen's headlight system comes into play. To install the LS1 front brakes, you must swap the factory Third Gen spindles for those from a 1998-2002 Fourth Gen Camaro or Firebird . The LS1 spindles have a different caliper mounting geometry that accommodates the larger rotors and dual-piston calipers. However, this spindle swap has a cascading effect on other components, including the steering linkage and, indirectly, your headlight wiring. When removing and reinstalling the spindles, you will be working in close proximity to the headlight wiring harnesses that run along the front frame rails and near the wheel wells.
