Understanding offset is crucial when selecting aftermarket wheels for your 2018 Ram 1500. The factory wheels typically have a positive offset (+19mm to +25mm), which positions the wheels closer to the suspension components. When upgrading to wider 35x12.50 tires, you'll need wheels with lower offset (moving toward zero or negative) to push the tires outward, providing clearance from the upper control arms and sway bar links. For a truck with a 4-inch Rough Country lift, a 20x9 wheel with 0 to -12 offset is recommended to keep 35x12.50 tires from rubbing. If you're adding pocket-style fender flares, a 20x10 wheel with -12 offset will position the tires flush with the outside of the flares, while -24 offset creates a more aggressive "poke" beyond the flares. One important note: the front track width on 4WD 1500 models is approximately 1 inch wider than the rear, which is why some trucks appear to have different offsets front to rear.
