Replacing the factory paper filter with a K&N high-flow air filter is the perfect complement to removing the airbox lid. K&N filters are constructed with multiple layers of oiled cotton gauze sandwiched between two wire screens. This design allows substantially more air to pass through compared to paper filters while still trapping dirt, sand, and dust effectively. The oiled cotton media captures particles through surface loading, meaning they stick to the outside of the filter, and the filter can be cleaned and reused repeatedly with the K&N cleaning and oiling kit. Over the lifespan of a Raptor, this saves a significant amount of money compared to buying disposable paper filters. The increased airflow from a K&N filter, combined with a removed lid, can add up to 5 to 7 horsepower when paired with a proper fuel controller. The engine breathes easier, revs faster, and pulls harder through the entire RPM range, making it feel like you have strapped a rocket to the chassis.
