Plastic carrying bags, in particular, are the primary contributors of littered waste; every year, millions of plastic bags end up in the atmosphere, where they decompose for a thousand years in the soil, water sources, rivers, and other environments. To address the issue of scientific plastic waste management, the Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Regulations, 2011, which included plastic waste management, were notified in 2011.
