January 27, 1985 paved the way to the birth of Basic Christian Community Organization, also known as Kapatirang Kristiyano sa Don Galo, headed by Mrs. Crisanta Lara. Under the supervision of their founder Mrs. Lara, the members gathered on a weekly basis to participate actively in the Bible study and Bible sharing – two of the major activities initiated for the members of the group who hailed from different walks of life within the city.
The zeal of service burned and prompted Mrs. Lara to once again establish a group which catered to the involvement of the youth in spiritual – oriented activities of the Church. The newly established youth group was geared at motivating and providing opportunities for the youth to develop appreciation for God’s Word and service to the parish community. The group was called BCC Youth of Don Galo as indicated in its official logo designed by Mr. Victoriano V. Napoco Jr. Mrs. Editha Cornelio – Ferrer served as the first leader of the youth group, succession of leadership took place annually as prescribed by the elected officers of the Organization.
Inclusion of various community – oriented activities into the Organization’s developmental plans were considered BCCO’s milestone. These activities included the gift – giving activities during the Christmas season and minor outreach activities for poor but deserving families. Bible studies and Bible sharing were concurrently conducted along with these activities to sustain the spirituality of the group.
As the years passed, one great event brought immense joy to the group, as they were provided with the break to directly take part in the parish activities. The group was offered the opportunity to lead the singing of liturgical songs in one of the scheduled Eucharistic celebrations of St. Andrew Parish. This opportunity however, presented the need for intensive preparations in order to offer quality service to the assembly gathered for the Holy Mass. The Basic Christian Community Youth Choir, headed by its first choir master, Mr. Gabriel “Jhun” Mendoza Jr., was founded in answer to this need and opportunity. With vigorous hearts, the members of the group sung the hymns of praises to God at eight (8:00) in the morning of Sundays and six (6:00) p.m. on Tuesdays, for the novena Masses in honor of the Our Lady of Buensuceso, the Patroness of the City of Paranaque. This commitment at present is carefully espoused by the current members of the group as they religiously practice every Saturday from three (3:00) to seven (7:00) p.m. with a minor change of time for the Sunday schedule, due to the changes in the Parish, the BCC Choir’s schedule was moved to an earlier time slot which is seven (7:00) a.m.
The necessity of reflecting the logo to the recent composition of the group, called for a revision, which enabled the emblem to be generally represent its members. This revision was made possible though the technological prowess of Ms. Raquel Dawn Quimson. This emblem serves as the official seal of Basic Christian Community for its future affairs and transactions.
At present, the members of the group are united in sustaining the legacy of service and spirituality through the varied committees which function and respond to the holistic formation of the Basic Christian Community Organization’s dynamic family members.
