Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization (ICO), an affiliate of the PICO National Network, engages in congregation-based community organizing
Established in 1999, Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization (ICO) engages low- and moderate-income families in civic life and the democratic process through leadership training and congregation-based organizing. Working through nine member congregations and three schools, ICO acts as a catalyst for systemic change through a network of local leaders representing the concerns of nearly 10,000 families. ICO’s member congregations serve diverse communities – Latino/Latina, African-American, Filipino, Samoan, Tongan, Cambodian and White – that collectively reflect Long Beach’s rich mosaic of cultures and faith traditions. A member of the PICO National Network, ICO uses the congregation-community model of community organizing to identify and work on individuals’ strongly felt concerns to engage and train local leaders.
