Muslim Writers Collective

A bold initiative aimed at cultivating a vibrant literary tradition in Muslim America and providing a platform for young people to share their stories. The Muslim Writers Collective is a bold initiative aimed at reclaiming control over the American Muslim narrative and providing a safe space for current and aspiring writers. Through storytelling, creativity, and culture, we seek to incubate a vibrant literary tradition among youth in our community. Our core event is a monthly Open Mic where participants share their writings, stories, and spoken word. We also have numerous member-led initiatives that are in early stages of development, including a prison writing project, writing workshops, book clubs, and an urban citizen journalism project. Founded in January 2014 in New York City, we have active chapters in both New York and San Franscisco, as well as nascent chapters in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. We gratefully acknowledge the support of the following institutions and organizations: · Alwan for the Arts · Berkeley Masjid · Bitcoin Center NYC · Cipriani Wall Street · Columbia University Muslim Student Association · Islamic Center of New York University · Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California · Islamic Society of North America · Khan's Tutorial · Mipsterz · Muslim Center of Detroit · San Francisco Muslim Community Center · Ya-Ya Youth Activist Network Join our email list too!
