Pratham is a non governmental organization working to provide quality education to the children of India.
In a country with 28 states, over 600 districts, and more than 350 million children, it is a monumental task to ensure that every child is literate – a task that the government cannot accomplish alone. This thought gave birth to Pratham Education Foundation in 1994 with the aim of providing pre-school education to children in the slums of Mumbai city. Since then, the organization has grown to become India’s largest non-governmental organization working to provide education to the underprivileged children of India. Today, it is reaching out to three million children annually in rural and urban areas across 19 states of the country.
To make its programmes sustainable and self-propelled in the long run, Pratham works closely with the school systems and the communities involved. Thousands of volunteers, mainly women, have been trained to Pratham’s initiatives to the grassroots.
