Brief History of the Eighties:
The 1980s saw the rise of pop, dance and new wave music. As the term became trendy nightclub in the early years of the decade, genres such as post-disco, italo disco, Euro disco and dance-pop became popular. Rock music continued to enjoy a wide audience. Sub-genres such as new wave, soft rock, and glam metal and shred guitar characterized by a strong distortion, pinch harmonics and whammy bar abuse became very popular. Adult contemporary, quiet storm, and smooth jazz gained popularity.
The 1980s are commonly using digital recording, associated with the use of synthesizers, synthpop with electronic music and other genres of non-traditional instruments increasing in popularity. Also during this decade, we have developed several important electronic genres including electro, techno, house, free and Eurodance style, the increase in prominence during the 1990s and beyond. Throughout the decade, R & B, hip hop and urban genres were becoming common, especially in urban areas of large metropolitan cities; rap was particularly successful in the latter part of the decade, with the advent of the golden age of hip hop. These genres-particularly urban rap and hip-hop continue to rise in popularity through the 1990s and 2000s.
A 2010 survey conducted by the agency Music Choice digital broadcasting, which surveyed over 11,000 participants, found that 1980 is the decade's most favored tune the last 50 years.
