Nkhotakota CRS is a MACRA licensed Community Broadcaster. The station was set up in 2001 and started broadcasting on November 23 in 2003. It was set up as a community project by Malawi National Commission for UNESCO.
Nkhotakota Community Radio station seeks promote community participation in developmental activities.
The station has a very stable transmission background and enjoys massive listenership through its interactive community programs. The station is also a member of other media institutions like NAMISA and the Media Council of Malawi. Founded on the vision of achieving a well economically and socially empowered community with equal opportunities and active participation in sustainable development the station is governed by the board, management and operation staff.
Nkhotakota Community Radio station has been in existence since 23 November 2003 and is well structured with technical expertise from the board to management. The station has a full production and on-air studios with 16 members of staff working on voluntary basis. Since its establishment, the station has successfully managed several projects of various types ranging from health to community development.
The following are some of the project run by the station to the satisfaction of the community and the sponsoring organizations: National AIDS Commission funded SRHR project through Nkhotakota District Council entitled “promotion of dialogue on HIV AIDS SRH”, participated in electro coverage and awareness massage in 2009 presidential and parliamentary election. Farm Radio International through AFRI- Radio agriculture farming technologies project for small holder farmers, Farmer Voice Radio (FVR) project on new farming technologies for small holder farmers and climate change mitigation, and Go green Malawi project with support from British council.
