Located in Desa Babadan, Gunung Kawi, Malang, East Java, PT Greenfields Indonesia's dairy farm is the largest in South-East-Asia.
In the early 1990s, countries in South East Asia including Indonesia were going through a period of rapid economic growth. The demand for premium food, especially fresh dairy produce, and the need for a healthy lifestyle soared as the population became more affluent. However, this demand was primarily met by imported products and some local products manufactured from imported milk powders.
In addition, the absence of large scale commercial dairy farms in Indonesia, coupled with the vast availability of labour resources, fertile land, pristine water and raw materials, presented a huge opportunity to create a significant dairy enterprise to supply to the domestic Indonesian market as well as to the region. This marked the beginning of PT Greenfields Indonesia.
On March 14, 1997, PT Greenfields Indonesia was established by a group of Australian and Indonesian entrepreneurs with strong agribusiness expertise and experience. The company commenced the development of a dairy farm at Desa Babadan, Gunung Kawi, Malang, East Java, an ideal environment for the special dairy cows imported from Australia.
In April 1999, the Company began the construction of a milk processing facility that became operational in June 2000. Milk produced by the farm is of the highest quality and meets the world toughest microbiological standards.
PT Greenfields Indonesia produces Extended Shelf Life (ESL) pasteurised and Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk in several types, flavours and sizes.
Today, Greenfields farm has a cattle population of over 4,000 head of Holstein cows producing 20 millions litres of fresh milk each year. Besides supplying the domestic market, over 50% of its finished products are sold in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines and other countries in the region.
