Mkomazi National Park lies below the beautiful Pare and Usambara Mountains and it extends its borders to meet Tsavo National park of Kenya. The name “Mkomazi,” meaning ‘‘little water,” comes from the Pare community. This park, a game reserve since 1951, was upgraded to national park in 2006.
Mkomazi is a fantastic destination for birdwatchers, with more than 450 species recorded, including both migratory and none migratory species, such as the secretary birds, Kori bastard, Ostriches, Guinea fowl, and the ground horn-bills Eurasian rollers.
