Fatherhood Foundation (FHF)..."Every Child Deserves One."
More than 27 million children (39 percent) of all U.S. children now live apart from their fathers. In a typical year, more than one third of these children won’t even see their dads. The situation is worst for poor and minority children. According to recent government statistics, 72 percent of African-American children are born to unmarried mothers. Not only are these statistics heartbreaking, it applies to African-American homes in disproportionate numbers. This is compared to the 17 percent of Asians, 29 percent of whites, 53 percent of Hispanics and 66 percent of Native Americans.
Research shows that the costs of fatherlessness are high and ultimately affect children in numerous tragic ways:
63 percent of youth suicides
71 percent of pregnant teenagers
71 percent of high school dropouts
70 percent of juveniles in state-operated institutions
75 percent of adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers
85 percent of youth in prisons
