Elgin Community College
Since 1949, Elgin Community College (ECC) has been dedicated to improving lives through learning. As a regionally accredited institution, ECC continues to offer some of the best programs in the region. In addition to offering six associate’s degree programs, the college also offers more than 150 career-oriented occupational degrees and certificates, corporate and continuing education programs, and a full complement of pre-collegiate courses and initiatives. The college is also a great place to start a bachelor’s degree, earn summer credit, or begin dual admission with a university.
ECC’s 360-square-mile district is home to approximately 450,800 residents, 16,750 businesses, four school districts, and 33 communities. The U.S. Department of Education has designated ECC an Hispanic-serving institution. The college has also been distinguished as a military-friendly institution.
Recent years have brought record-setting enrollment to ECC. Over 24,500 credit and non-credit students enrolled during the 2011 fiscal year and the number of degrees and certificates awarded by ECC has increased 27 percent over the past four years. Additionally, more than 70,000 community members enjoy performances, lectures and gallery shows through the college’s arts and humanities centers.
Affordability, accountability and accessibility remain core foundations at ECC. Tuition remains low, at $105 per credit hour, while the college continues to offer financial aid assistance. In fiscal year 2011, more than $21 million in financial aid, grants and scholarships was awarded to students.
ECC is a nine-time recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The national certificate acknowledges and encourages the college’s efforts in making its reports transparent and accessible to the public. The college also maintains excellent credit ratings from Moody’s Investor Service and Standard & Poor’s—two world-recognized credit ratings agencies. ECC has held an Aaa credit rating from Moody’s since 2009 and in April 2010 was upgraded from AA- to AA+ by Standard & Poor’s. The Moody’s rating is the highest credit rating available and the Standard & Poor’s rating is the second-highest available.
